Hello hello hello!
We’re back!
In this episode we’re joined by the fabulous Nikki Moffitt, an Aussie who has just made the move from the US to Hamburg. This is Nikki’s fourth move in 14 years. Is it any easier the fourth time around? Have a listen and a giggle while we discuss.
In this episode we’ll also discuss our favourite podcasts, movies and books as well as launching the Two Fat Expats book group.
This month we’ll be reading Diplomatic Incidents: The Memoirs of an (Un)diplomatic Wife by Cherry Denman. You can click the link to grab a copy. We’d also love it if you left us a message. Can you see the prompt just to the right of the page? We’d love to hear from you.

Hi Kirsty & Nikki, so great to have you back. I am very sad not to have Sarah but happy that she is doing what she has wanted to do… welcome Nikki. Just doing the mowing here at bum truck nowhere in outback Australia while listening to you two… a whole world away from you guys. Just tried to leave a voice message but it is telling me something about Flash Player… I updated but still not working… had best get back to the mowing. So happy to have you back!!!! xx

Hellooooooooo there gorgeous! (Kirsty here), I kept seeing you on Facebook live with Mr Kirsten at Progblogger, you were fab. Okay, the voice message, I had the same problem the first time I did it, I just had to update my flash, log in and back out again and it worked. We’ve had a couple of messages this morning so it seems to working for some. The other option is there’s an app you can download on your phone called Speakpipe – then it should work perfectly. I reckon we need to get you on the podcast Miss Chardy. xxx

Hello Ladies! You two talked to me while I went for a drive along the Wyong River this arvo and it was fun! I started listening yesterday & heard Sarah’s news about her job (well-done!) and welcomed the news that Nikki is here! I feel very much an old (true for me!( friend as I’ve known you both since twitter’s good old days of 2010. Nikki I remember chatting to you when Z was at school in SA.. and of course we have the ‘Gong as our childhood places… Kirsty you & I connected over broken leg stories! So, we may not have met but I’ve followed you both and your family & personal stories for over 6 years now. My last 2 years of change to my life have some definite similarities to expat living. I’ve moved to a completely different life & environment since leaving Sydney’s western suburbs after selling our family home & leaving our kids & their families too. At the same time I lost all of my professional work connections by finally retiring from all education & schooling roles. I still feel like a stranger here even though I speak the language but I don’t (even now) have connections other than via social media. It is interesting to note that my health has suffered as a result of these major changes in my life and as my psychologist & GP (they were a lucky find in a new area!) it takes a lot longer for our emotions & feelings to catch up to the sensible & rational decisions made to move, sell & retire! I look forward to more news on your podcasts & love the ease with which you both chat & laugh!!

Hi Denyse (Nikki here), I absolutely feel what you have done is very similar to an expat situation. Kirsty and I were just talking today when we were recording about expat life being similar to outback life and it is also similar to exactly what you have done. So true on the point of emotions taking some time to catch up. I am glad you have been able to find good support for you in your new area. Thanks for the welcome and I hope we can keep you company on walks for the rest of this season and that some of the upcoming recordings are of interest. N x

Thanks Nikki! Looking forward to listening in each podcast. D xx
