Hello and welcome to another episode of Two Fat Expats. Today we discuss the subject of expat divorce and why an expat divorce is vastly different from an ordinary divorce in your home country.
We heard from two women, both who have gone through divorce on what they learned, and what they would have done differently. We wanted to say thank you to Vanessa and Nicky, their stories showed what amazing women and mothers they are.
The most important thing to consider when proceeding with a divorce overseas are the laws in your adopted country. Will you be better off heading home to file for divorce? It is obviously not a decision to be made lightly and a lot of planning is needed to ensure that you, your children and your assets are protected. You may find this article from The Guardian a very interesting read.

Kirsty, you have a real talent as a interviewer, fantastic job! There are a lot of long-term professionals who don’t interview as well as you do.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this episode. It’s truly horrifying that anyone you loved, trusted and married, could not only have an affair and decide to leave you, but could actually plan ahead, and move to another country solely to deprive you of assets and your children. This was a really thought provoking episode.

I felt the same way Katie, hard to fathom how someone could be so cold and heartless to someone they obviously once loved. Promise next week’s episode will be more upbeat 🙂 xx
