Hello and welcome back to Episode 2, Season 3 of Two Fat Expats, where we believe you should live your expat life to the fullest. Take and make the most of any opportunities that come your way. This week we discuss how your expat life is not my expat life. Kirsty and Nikki outline what their expat lives look like, quite different from each other, and also different from previous expat lives they have lived.
The 4 kids, 20 suitcases page offered up many great stories of expat lives that were wildly different. Liz and Kate were able to share their stories with us.
A reminder that this month we’re reading Diplomatic Incidents: The Memoirs of an (Un)diplomatic Wife by Cherry Denman. You can click the link to grab a copy.
We’d also love it if you left us a message. Can you see the prompt just to the right of the page? We’d love to hear from you. This week Amy left us our very first message and we share that with you in the podcast. So exciting!!!
Here’s the links to the social media discussed in this episode:
Nikki’s social media
An engaging podcast from Gimlet media by Australian Wendy Zuckerman, Science Vs
The StartUp episode about how she came to move to New York and work at Gimlet can be heard here.

Watching the Haj on Snapchat.
Movie: Alex and Eve – Aussie movie, good for teens up. Full of stereotypes.
One of these views is a photo from Nikki’s front balcony in Hamburg and the other from Kirsty’s window in Doha. Guess which is which.
Thanks for listening to the episode. As always we’d beg and plead for you to please head on over to iTunes and give us a rating. You can also come and say hi on our Facebook page or send us a voice message from the button on the web page. We love to hear from our listeners!

Hi Kirsty and Nikki – loved your podcast today, I particularly likes the bit about Oktoberfest, having suffered at the hands of the Germans a couple of weeks ago here in Pretoria 🙂 Thank you for mentioning my A Day in Your Expat Life series on my blog. I am always looking for more people to be featured (would love to feature a day in your lives!) so for anyone who is interested please let me know clara@expatpartnersurvival.com. Thank you.

Clara, You’re welcome. I have really been enjoying reading them. Nikki x

Hi ladies,
I am appreciating your perspectives and am feeling inspired.
Loved the topic – every life and situation is so different as it our reaction to it.
It is true that you can’t go back. We went back to HK after an almost 4 year break, and the world had moved on – people, surroundings, ambience, my perspective. However, with HK, it isn’t a surprise. It is a city which moves. You can blink and there is a new building and a new family living next door.
But, one thing I think you/we all share is the ability to read the new surroundings and slot in. You develop this amazing adaptability that people who have not travelled as much aren’t able to. I am seeing this here. So much.
Keep it up. I’m currently ‘binge listening’ to catch up. I can’t wait to get to your thoughts and take on the US election…. I cried the next day and had to drag myself up and out of bed.
I’ve left you a voice message from Ep 1 – but writing for this one, otherwise you’ll get a whole bunch of chat from me – I kinda liked the recording button!!
